A murder mystery game without the murder

Looking for a murder mystery game for the whole family? One that you could play with your colleagues and friends too? Try Who Stole the Prize Pie! It’s a non-violent, gender-fluid party game that I recently launched. It’s like a murder mystery game but without the murder!

What’s a murder mystery game without murder?

In Who Stole the Prize Pie, players follow the same format as any murder mystery game. The differences are there’s no murder, no assigned genders, and no romances. This makes it easy to run and playable by all types of groups from colleagues and students to friends and family.

Players play the game in person, taking on 8 to 12 characters who investigate and accuse each other across two rounds to uncover the pie thief. In each round, players receive character-specific objectives that reveal clues to the thief’s identity. After round two, they review three pieces of evidence before making their final accusations.

I recommend playing Who Stole the Prize Pie with anyone 10 or older. However, if you’re playing with younger kids, I also created a free expansion pack with “assistant” characters who have more relaxed objectives. These relaxed roles support the main characters and work well for younger children or people who aren’t familiar with role-playing games but want to join in.

A murder mystery game without the murder? That’s right! I recently launched Who Stole the Prize Pie, a game that’s perfect for the whole family.

Why Who Stole the Prize Pie?

I created Who Stole the Prize Pie after struggling to find a murder mystery game I could play with friends and family that didn’t rely on gender tropes or awkward romantic storylines. When I couldn’t find one, I decided to create one. From there, the idea of a thievery instead of a murder was born.

I also wanted a murder mystery type game to play with younger kids. I found that the objectives in typical murder mystery games were too complex for younger kids but I didn’t want to sacrifice the fun of the game for older players. That’s why I created the kid-friendly expansion pack.
